Sunny days and Snowy days

Here in Toronto it’s been snowing on and off for two days now, but we had a lovely Saturday.

It reached 14 Celsius – perfect weather for taking pictures of the flowers that were blooming and the new plants coming up out of the ground.

Chris and I spent a few hours on Saturday cleaning up the front garden and the planted boulevard.

It looked great … lots of new life and my roses all survived the winter as far as I can tell. Too bad everything’s covered in a light layer of snow right now!

Here’s what my now snow covered and likely wilting crocus’ looked like on Saturday …

It was lovely to look out my Kitchen window and see all those flowers blooming in the grass. So pretty!

Thinking of Clematis as it snows and snows

I don’t know about you, but I’ve just about had my fill of snow. It’s been snowing all week and it’s apparently going to be snowing quite a bit next week too. Hmmm maybe after that it will totally stop and the weather will get better? Warmer? Ha … now that’s a pipe dream.

So … since I can’t do anything about the weather or the fact that it’s only January and there’s no way I’ll be doing any gardening for months I decided to post one of my favorite pictures of my Clematis Jackmanii.

When I first started my garden in 2002 I planted the clematis Jackmanii, my first clematis, near my tall wooden fence. I also put a trellis on the fence to help guide the clematis when it started to grow. Later on that year, in the fall, I planted my now huge William Baffin rose in front of the clematis. It gives the clematis roots shade and the clematis grows on the fence and well … into the rose as too.

Here’s a shot of the clematis in bloom. It’s growing on the fence and it’s long vines entwined a small birdhouse that we had on the fence at the time …

Now … doesn’t that make you think of summer and all it’s promise?

Oh and BTW the birdhouse is about 6 feet from where I planted the clematis so that goes to show just how big this Clematis really is!

It’s going to snow all week?

I just took a peak at my Weathernetwork icon on my desktop and discovered that it’s supposed to snow every single day this week. What the heck?

We went through November, December and half of January without any snow and all of a sudden it’s snowing every single day? Is it trying to make up for the dry spell or something?

Oh well. As I’ve said before, if it’s going to be freezing cold outside I’d rather that my garden plants have a nice layer of snow over them to give them a little bit of protection. Especially since I didn’t put down any leaves or extra protection on the beds this past autumn.

Anyone else having a week of snow?
