Tiger Lily close up

This is an orangey red tiger lily that grows each year in my garden.

I love looking out my kitchen window in the morning and seeing their fiery color in the bright sun. They really are quite pretty when grown in large clumps.

Just don’t bend down to try to smell a lily.

That colored pollen stains and if you get it on your face, arm or shirt it will take a while to get off. I believe it’s just about impossible to get off clothes!

The lily bud

by Tricia

Lily flower bud

I took this photo of a tiger lily bud about two weeks ago.

If you’ve been reading this site for a while you might remember that the first day that I decided to try out my new SLR digital camera it was raining lightly. I literally have at least 200 photos of flowers covered in rain droplets! I hope you don’t hate wet flowers because I’m sure they’ll be featured regularly!

That reminds me I must get out in the garden and take more photos, hopefully when it’s not raining. Our Rose of Sharon tree is in full bloom, many of the roses are re-blooming and I don’t know how many other flowers are blooming but there’s lots. It’s time for another photo session.

Tiger Lily close up

My tiger lilies have been blooming for at least two weeks. The colors are so vibrant!

The previous owners of our house had very little in their garden – some vegetables, two young fruit trees in the middle of the lawn?, rhubarb, raspberries, and some weedy plants that I can’t remember the name of but they were sure hard to get rid of! Oh and Lilies. Lots of orange lilies.

We kept the lilies and added other varieties. We also kept the raspberries but as you’ve probably figured out we changed most everything else.

I believe it was the vibrant color of the lilies that drew me outside to take their photograph one day last week. It had been raining on and off all day and was in fact lightly raining even as I stepped into the garden.

The lilies just looked so fresh. As if they were enjoying the rain. I had to take their photo.

Wouldn’t you have been drawn outdoors if you saw 20 or 30 lilies like the one above virtually glowing in the garden?
