Fading sedum flowers

by Tricia

sedum

This is a photo of my Sedum of unknown name in my backyard. The plant came with the house and must be one of the older varieties. It’s quite floppy, especially when well watered.

I took this photo at the beginning of October when the flowers were just starting to die down. The bumble bee’s were out and were especially enjoying the New York Asters but they like visiting the Sedum plants as well.

A lovely antique rose

by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

Compte de Chambord is perhaps my favorite rose.

It’s an antique rose that has the most lovely rose perfume scent. The rose is quite hardy as well! It’s branches have very little winter damage in the spring and green up quickly as the weather warms.

The first flush of flowers at the end of May or in early June just cover the rose bush and the scent from the flowers wafts through the air.

Some of my close neighbors tell me that they can smell my roses – especially in the morning – and I know most of the scent that they are smelling comes from Compte de Chambord and perhaps my Baron prevost and Jacques Cartier roses as they are my smelliest roses.

Perovskia little spire

by Tricia

Well the snow is still here, covering my garden and making it difficult to walk around, but it’s a bit warmer outside today (above zero!) so it’s starting to melt a bit.

Still … I prefer to remember how pretty my garden looks when it’s not covered in snow.

The flowers above are Russian Sage. It’s formal name is Perovskia little spire. I grow it at the very end of my front garden near the walkway and sidewalk. It sends up delicate woody shoots that bloom late in the season. In fact, this photo was taken October 1st and as you can see it’s blooming happily away.
