It&#8217;s lovely purple blooms brightening up the garden. Lovely.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Rose of Sharon tree - blooming  by triciawd, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/dragonden\/3812389891\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow external noopener noreferrer\" class=\"ext-link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2674\/3812389891_3c9582d5fc.jpg\" alt=\"Rose of Sharon tree - blooming \" width=\"451\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We moved into our house in June 2001 and it wasn&#8217;t until the spring of 2002 that we started landscaping our backyard to create our lovely raised bed garden.<\/p>\n<div class=\"912745ff53504cd4aef8ff3ef7b9aa95\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: right; margin:10px 0 10px 10px;\">\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\r\ngoogle_ad_client = \"pub-3375789278566919\";\r\n\/* gardengrows_300x250inpost *\/\r\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"4054669721\";\r\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\r\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\r\n\/\/-->\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"\r\nsrc=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>Our neighbor, beside us, has a lovely old <a href=\"https:\/\/feverishthoughts.com\/garden\/2006\/07\/23\/rose-of-sharon\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Rose of Sharon tree<\/a> and for some reason hers was always sprouting little baby trees nearby.  Now I can&#8217;t remember what year it was that she gave us one of her tree&#8217;s babies &#8211; but I think it was probably in 2003.  That would make ours about 6 years old now.<\/p>\n<p>We planted our gifted Rose of Sharon tree in the middle of one of our raised garden beds &#8211; basically it&#8217;s on the left side of the yard in the middle of the garden.  A perfect place to see if from the kitchen window as I cook, clean or putter around or  from our patio when we sit outside in the garden.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a view of the tree from the back of the garden looking towards the house &#8211;<\/p><!--CusAds-->\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Rose of Sharon tree - blooming 4 by triciawd, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/dragonden\/3812385235\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow external noopener noreferrer\" class=\"ext-link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2202\/3812385235_5bbc4fb246.jpg\" alt=\"Rose of Sharon tree - blooming 4\" width=\"451\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unlike my neighbors old tree ours doesn&#8217;t tend to have young trees sprouting up around it in the spring &#8230; but maybe that&#8217;s just because we mulch our garden so heavily.<\/p>\n<p>I just went out to measure our tree and it&#8217;s over 9 feet tall.  I think I&#8217;ll prune it and shape it in the fall so that next year it won&#8217;t get any taller than it is now!<\/p>\n<p>So far we haven&#8217;t had any problems with our tree.
