Nash the Slash and Iggy Pop interview

Here is a rare video of Nash the Slash and Iggy Pop interviewing themselves after a concert in Calgary Alberta sometime in 1982. I think it was 1982 because Nash was on a North American tour with Iggy Pop from February-April in 1982.

They just appear to be having a great time in each others presence. I’m not sure what they’re getting at or if there is any purpose to the interview but it sure is entertaining at times! In one section someone alludes to the fact that it is being shot in a local TV studio somewhere in Calgary.If anyone out there knows more about the video please tell me, I’d love to find out.

Nash can’t remember, but he thinks there are serious stories to be told here, but..he…can’t…. remember. Jim…..Help!!! Just kidding. Iggy and Nash remember everything that happened over the entire six week tour, but they refuse to incriminate each other.

At one point in the video, they show us some of the finer points of yoga and stretching. Come to think of it, they may have been the forerunners of the 20 Minute Workout video’s? Remember that show?

A couple of years ago I had the pleasure of meeting the man, without the bandages, at a local patio. It was so cool to finally meet a boyhood legend that it left me speechless … yes speechless!

Music might be the best way to a man’s heart?

So there is a new study out by Canadian researchers at McGill University in Montreal that says music helps the brain release the same feel-good neurotransmitter dopamine. It’s just like the ones we get when we partake in our favorite foods, sex or, for some amount of us out there, illicit drugs. Got that ladies, maybe it’s time to get out of the kitchen and go take up an instrument that will allow you to make some wild music with the one your with? Oow, I bet I’m in a little trouble for that one! Just kiddin’ … kind of.

Music triggers the same pleasure-reward system in the brain as food, sex and illicit drugs, according to Canadian researchers who have been peering into minds of music lovers.

They’ve discovered the feel-good neurotransmitter dopamine is released when people listen to their favourite music, be it rock, jazz or classical.Montreal Gazette

Austin City Limits moving to new location

So the longest-running music series in American television history, Austin City Limits (ACL) is getting quite the upgrade and a new larger studio. The Moody Foundation of Galveston has donated a large sum of money to ACL for new HD production equipment and to boost seating from 320 to 2,750. Through their donation the Foundation gains the naming rights to the theatre to be called the Moody Theatre

Ok, I get it, they might want to upgrade/replace the old studio by how are they going to replace that feel that you get with a smaller much more intimate venue?

Not that I’m against the advancement of music halls but why don’t the designers work with what they have? Don’t they have the expertise and technology to do it correctly?

I’ve been a huge fan of ACL’s for so many years now that I can’t remember the first time I’ve ever seen it. The bands that they had were amazing. The complete listings of bands that have performed must be HUGE. Just check out some of the line ups that have been there on the Rolling Stone website, there’s no way you can read them all!

So check what I consider the best show ever to grace the stage at the famous Austin City Limits stage!

Debbie Harry was abducted by Ted Bundy?

My wife told me about this bizarre story about how the lead singer of the band Blondie, Debbie Harry (age 65), was briefly abducted by the 1970’s serial killer Ted Bundy. I thought to myself that this is weird because I’ve never heard about this story before.

My wife came across this story through a UK newspaper feed that tells us of this nasty tale. If you closely follow Debbie’s story, it may come across as a little bit confusing. If you are aware of Ted Bundy’s life as one of the worlds craziest serial killers, then you will know what I mean. Go to Snopes to see more.

As the story goes, Debbie informs us that this event happened in New York city. She claims, It was in the early ’70s and I was trying to get across town at two or three o’clock in the morning. This little car kept coming around and offering me a ride. I kept saying no but finally I took the ride because I couldn’t get a cab.

I got in the car and the windows were are rolled up, except for a tiny crack. This driver had an incredibly bad smell to him. I looked down and there were no door handles. The inside of the car was stripped. The hairs on the back of my neck just stood up. I wiggled my arm out of the window and pulled the door handle from the outside. I don’t know how I did it, but I got out.

I don’t know what to think about this story, but it sure was interesting to read.

Just listening to some good old Wilton Said

I’m sitting back and relaxing this morning with a cup of Joe and not craving a smoke! Quitting is not all that hard … it’s just fighting the cravings once or twice a day that is a killer!

When checking out Facebook to see what was up, I realized that a buddy of mine (Wilton Said) had some sort of new web site, actually it’s his newsletter, that I was unaware of so I visited it. The newsletter had been around for a while, man am I ever behind on the old computer, so I just had to search for some neat ideas from this great keyboardists!

The site is nice and sleek. Simple to navigate and of coarse full of great tunes from the band! Right now I’m listening over and over to a song that I believe, sums up the idea of the band. It’s called The Empty Sky part 1. Every time I hear it, this one song brings me back to the first time I saw Wilton and his band at the Nuance festival for the first time two years ago.

I came across this fantastic interview of Wilton on Bill’s Prog Blog that I enjoyed reading. It talks about Wilton’s humble beginnings, what he and his band are up to now and what’s to come in the future. If you’ve never heard of this band before or your just into music that will make you think, then your search is over! Enjoy everyone and your welcome!

Keith Richards goes after journalist during interview

So Keith Richards is up to the things that well, only Keith Richards can get away with!

According to Spinner magazine, Keith Richards allegedly attacked a Swedish journalist during an interview in Paris.

What got Richards all “started up” was a bad rating the critic had given the Stones in 2007. A few minutes into their interview, which was part of a publicity tour for Richards’ new autobiography ‘Life’, the rocker reportedly demanded a public apology and grew increasingly aggressive.

“His eyes got black and he was absolutely furious,” Larsson said. “He stood up and asked if we would put out the lights and settle the disagreement straight away. I realized he was serious and then I began to feel uncomfortable and that I wanted to get out of there pretty fast.”

The interview, which was supposed to last 30 minutes, quickly ended as Richards reportedly hit the journalist in the head and growled: “You’re lucky to get out of here alive.”

Ted Nugent is in trouble again

The crazy guitar/hunting enthusiast Ted Nugent was charged with killing a helpless deer while taping a TV reality show for the Outdoor Channel called Spirit of the Wild, last February. A game warden was a witness to the event and said that he targeted a deer that was too young to be hunted.

His defense lawyer entered a no-contest plea on Nugent’s behalf Friday. The charge is a misdemeanor counts of baiting a deer and failing to acquire an authorized signature to confirm the kill’s legality.

Mr Cat Scratch Fever was originally facing 11 charges, but his attorney was able to get the charges dropped after a negotiated a deal with the courts. Mr Nugent must pay a fine of $1,750 fine to reconcile the affair.

Still crazy after all these years!

Guitar Hero pays homage to RUSH’s 2112 album

The video game Guitar Hero, from Activision, is paying tribute to our very own RUSH’s 2112 album! It will be coming out this September in the Warriors of Rock Guitar Hero video series.

For the uninitiated, 2112 isn’t your average rock album. It’s about the fallout from a galaxy-wide war in the year 2062, which ended with an oppressive organization, known as the Red Star of the Solar Federation, in charge. The federation exerts its influence over cultural matters through their conduits, the Priests of the Temple of Syrinx. But things begin to change for the better in the year 2112, after a rebellious man discovers a guitar in a cave and proceeds to rock out. Essentially, it’s the plot of Footloose, but with a bunch of spacey, Ayn Rand philosophy thrown in. CBC News

Even though I hear that Guitar Hero has used some of Rush’s tunes in other issues, this years homage to them is special to me. I remember listening to this album when it first came out to today. I figured out every little riff that i could. Man that was a awesome concept album! I know I’ve talked before about my dislike for this game due to the lack of guitar skills needed to play this thing, and I still hold those views, but I must admit I might check out my nephew’s copy of it when it comes out! Hear that AJ, what are ya waiting for!

Last night at Sarah’s Acoustic Afternoon was a blast!

Too bad that I didn’t play! I couldn’t play because of this very nagging ear infection that I have been going through the past little while. It’s like being under water and it makes it hard to concentrate on what your playing. Oh well, there’s always next weekend’s Acoustic Afternoon!

I did get down there yesterday afternoon around 5 PM to see an old bass guitar player hero from the past, the great Doug F. His bass chops back in the day was a true inspiration for me as a very young guitar player growing up in Brantford and attending St. Pius X Church.

He was one of those intimidating musicians, in my mind due to my young age at that time, that just had a certain air to him. At first he made me feel not worthy to play in front of because he was so good! I’m sure that most of us out there has had a similar experience when we first start playing?! After getting to know him years later, I quickly found this not to be true at all.

We all sat out on the patio at Sarah’s and the weather could not have been better. Oh ya, some team from Spain won some kinda game? We chatted there for a while and then we decided to head off to our place to sit in our backyard for some more fun in the sun. Our very overly friendly Greek neighbour Nick had his whole clan over again and he asked us over to join them for some great food, (damn those Greek people know how to BBQ) and drinks. After leaving there with around 2-3 days of diners, we came back to our place.

I brought out the my trusty Larrivee and played some background music to go with our conversation. It was perfect!

So that was my day in paradise my with wife and an old guitar hero!
