John Lennon would have been 70 today

I wonder what John Lennon would have done for his birthday if Mark David Chapman had not taken the heart and soul of a generation from us on that Monday December 8th 1980 @ 10:55 PM?

It’s wild just to think about what John Lennon would be doing, as a modern day artisan, if he was with us today.

I think that he’d be a rather hard working multi-media god.

He could have created some of his magical music right in the comfort of his Dakota apartment and then released it on iTunes or some other site. He could have produced fabulous digital art for art galleries or for sale. He’d more than likely have a blog to use as a soapbox to bring us his message about his comments on society. He might even have had a Twitter account, who knows?

Will George W. Bush finally Give Peace a Chance?

George W. Bush is going to talk about his days in the old White house. That’s nice and all but his speech will be taking place in the same Montreal hotel where John Lennon and Yoko were asking everyone who would listen to them to give peace a chance? I know, this can’t be right but it is! This story is just so weird and ironic that I can’t find the words to describe it properly.

Didn’t someone think about the mockery, not to mention the humour, that would come with using a venue like this for such a purpose? Think what happened there at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel 40 years ago and what it was all really about. Doesn’t Bush have some PR person who looks out for his image? God’s that’s funny … I think?

This article from The Canadian Press by Andy Blatchford, really caught my eye and I just wanted to share it with you all.

So what do you think about the irony of this one? Is it just me or am I just blowing this event out of proportion? Enjoy!

Woman who inspired song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds dies at 46

A childhood friend of John Lennon’s son Julian, was the girl who was really behind the song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds from the Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album!

Lucy Vodden is her name and she was a very important person in Musical history. Unfortunately she passed away this past Tuesday in a London England hospital. She had a long battle with lupus and was 46 years of age.

Vodden’s connection to the Beatles dates back to her early days, when she made friends with schoolmate Julian Lennon, John Lennon’s son.

Julian Lennon, then four years old, came home from school with a drawing one day, showed it to his father, and said it was “Lucy in the sky with diamonds.”

I just found this story today and thought wow, is that really what the song is about!!! I like most people today thought that the song was about LSD trips! It a little bit of Beatles trivia that I found neat!

The Mosport peace concert July 1970

While reading the Toronto Star the other day, I found a great piece of music history that never was.

lennon_ono.jpg It was to be organized by John Lennon and whats her name. This event was to be part of their peace campaign, shortly after John left the Beatles. It was to have been a star studded event North of Toronto Ontario.

Unfortunately for us the US government got involved with it. I still to this day have no idea why the US Government was so concerned with John Lennon in the first place? If he was such an eyesore to them then why didn’t they just ignore him. You know like what I say about Micheal Jackson all the time, ” If you just ignore this freak, he will eventually just go away”. Just like the school or village idiot?

But even common sense has to prevail once in a while. Although the Ontario government at the time tried to put the ca bash to this one, the courts stepped in and said that it was ok to proceed.

When was it to have taken place, Aug. 7-9, 1970. I bet it would have been a blast!

While his Ukulele Gently Weeps – WOW

The guy plays this song so well on his ukulele that, it makes me want to go out and buy one.

I’ve been to “Strawberry Field” in New York city, right in front of the Dakota Apartments where John Lennon lived and unfortunately was fatally shot.

I was in New York in 1986 and I can tell you it’s a fabulous city to visit, not to mention living there would be a blast. The feelings that we all felt when we were right there at Strawberry Fields in Central Park, was quite intense.

Anyways, just listen to this song then follow the chord progressions that he does, in concert with his strumming, and it is just the most wonderful tune to be exposed to. Enjoy!
