To the olde boys from Pink Floyd

It took 29 years and 328 days for the surviving members of Pink Floyd (Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason) to perform as a band at a Roger Waters concert at London’s O2 Arena on Thursday May 13th. Man that would have been a great show to witness.

I recall seeing the band in the old CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) in Toronto in the mid 80’s and that show was just plain epic. The band actually went into Quadraphonic Sound that night, holy crap it was just like sitting in someone’s home who had a real kick ass stereo system. An old friend of mine, Ed Myers, had the first Quad Stereo that I ever experienced and for that I thank him!

While Rogers was playing Comfortably Numb that night with his band, David Gilmour joined in with a beautiful black Stratocaster of his and what a sight and sound that must of been. Behind Roger Waters on stage was his trademark white Wall and on the top of that was David Gilmour whaling away singing and playing guitar like only he can. Whenever I jam along with this classic tune or perform it live somewhere, I always have his majestic guitar solo playing in my head way before it should in truth come in. It’s just one of those solo’s that even non guitarists know off by heart.

Then for the last song of the evening Roger Waters, David Gilmour and then bands original drummer Nick Mason gathered on stage and offered the crowd their version of Outside the Wall. Gilmour was on a mandolin, Rogers on trumpet and Nick Mason on tambourine.

I’m not sure how many Pink Floyd fans there are out there, but if you wanted to see the olde boys from Pink Floyd play together again, even if it was for largely symbolic reasons, than this was a show to have seen.

The Slash took guitar lessons from Ronnie Wood?

ronnie Wood Ronnie Wood, legendary rhythm guitar player for the Rolling Stones said that he taught the young Slash some fine pointers in how to play the guitar when Slash was living in England as a kid.

I wonder what Ronnie charged Slash for lessons? It shows that you can never pay too much for a good, or in this case one hell of a good, guitar teacher!

I found this article both funny but interesting. It makes me wonder if Ronnie’s influence played a big part in Slash’s learning curve or just something trivial.

I see similar parallels in styles but nothing that jumps out at me and says, I can see a little bit of Ronnie’s style in what Slash in playing there!

Wood said, “I remember him as a kid spying on me when I was playing guitar and I’d teach him little licks, and now I’m learning licks off him, it’s really good.”

Now it seems that the teacher is no learning a thing or two from the student!

Rascal Flatts

They were the biggest-selling American act in any music genre in 2006, but now country stars Rascal Flatts want the rest of the world to hear their songs. The band talks about performing in London and their collaboration with actor Jamie Foxx. (Feb. 1)

They seem like a bunch of guys that you’d love to go camping with, if your into that sort of stuff, I know I love it!

But anyway, they appear to be fairly talented and modest. I read that these guys have a bit of a grittier side to them that is just crying out to be heard.

So only time will tell if they are the real thing!

Fantastic guide to Green Cars

It’s nice to see that car manufactures are beginning to design more and more green cars. My wife and I try to live a fairly green lifestyle. In fact she’s been writing about it on her gardening blog recently. Over the last few years we’ve been changing slowing and living a greener lifestyle.

One major change that we’d like to make, probably with our next car purchase would be to get a green car. Probably a hybrid or if possible a pure electric car.

With this in mind, I was happy to find an article about the Greenest cars on earth over at the Vcars website.

Vcars specializes in the sale of Used cars and I suppose it won’t be long before they’ll be selling a few used green cars since there are more and more types of green cars on the market each year.

The article that I read discusses the many types of green cars that are presently being sold, as well as prototypes and manufactures plans for green cars of the future.

Probably the most well known green car is the hybrid Toyota Prius. This vehicle and it’s specifications are discussed in the article, as are a number of electric cars such as the G-Wiz, and the Sakura Maranello4. It seems that both of these cars can be found on the streets of London. As far as I know we don’t have anything quite like that available to us here in North America, but I hope that we will soon.

Then there are cars by a variety of well known manufacturers that produce a very low C02 footprint compared to many other vehicles on the road today. Cars such as the Honda Civic, Lexus RX-400h, and Lexus GS-450h are all considered green cars.

If you have an interest in cars I’m sure you’ll enjoy the article, and if you are interested in living green you’ll find some very useful information that will help you decide on your next car.

You must go to the site and see the prototypes of future green cars. Did you know that there’s plans for a Tesla Roadster Electric Vehicle? It looks amazing! Scroll to the last third of the article to see a photo of this cool looking car.

Overall I found this article quite informative and I’m sure I’ll go back to it when we are about to buy a new car.

The Band is mostly Canadian eh?

I’ll bet my life that most non-Canadians did not know that THE BAND was made up of mostly Canadians. They hail from the same neck of the woods that I came from. The History of “The Band’s” connection with Ontario is well documented. I am originally from Brantford and it happens to be in the middle of the area from which they all originated. Must be something in the water?

Well to tell you the truth, I didn’t realize this until a couple of years ago.

I had heard stories of one of them, Robbie Robertson being from Canada, but as far as I knew, they were the biggest and best in the world in my opinion, and I figured they must have been from some other place in Canada.

Robbie Robertson, is from Toronto but spent a lot of his younger years in the Six Nations reserve. I use to go there a fare amount and had friends from that area. It’s not far from Brantford.

Rick Danko lived in Simcoe. My family went to the Simcoe Winter Lights Festival regularly. They put on this great Christmas light show near the downtown part. There is great park and it has a small river running through it and the best time to go is when it is snowing heavily! You will think that you are at the North Pole, really great little town.

Richard Manuel is from Stratford. This is quite the quiet town. It’s around the Kitchener-Waterloo (which had it’s name changed from Berlin, during World War II) and is now known for the Stratford Festival. This is a Shakespearean festival that every kid from the southern Ontario area went to see many times throughout their childhood. The theater is a must to see if you enjoy great acting and visual effects.

Garth Hudson, is from London Ontario. My sister lived there for a while and I went there the odd time. Nothing really special about this place, but if I went there more often I probably would have found something.

Who says us Canucks are only good at hockey!
