Keith Richards goes after journalist during interview

November 11, 2010 by Chris

So Keith Richards is up to the things that well, only Keith Richards can get away with!

According to Spinner magazine, Keith Richards allegedly attacked a Swedish journalist during an interview in Paris.

What got Richards all “started up” was a bad rating the critic had given the Stones in 2007. A few minutes into their interview, which was part of a publicity tour for Richards’ new autobiography ‘Life’, the rocker reportedly demanded a public apology and grew increasingly aggressive.

“His eyes got black and he was absolutely furious,” Larsson said. “He stood up and asked if we would put out the lights and settle the disagreement straight away. I realized he was serious and then I began to feel uncomfortable and that I wanted to get out of there pretty fast.”

The interview, which was supposed to last 30 minutes, quickly ended as Richards reportedly hit the journalist in the head and growled: “You’re lucky to get out of here alive.”

The Slash took guitar lessons from Ronnie Wood?

April 20, 2010 by Chris

ronnie Wood Ronnie Wood, legendary rhythm guitar player for the Rolling Stones said that he taught the young Slash some fine pointers in how to play the guitar when Slash was living in England as a kid.

I wonder what Ronnie charged Slash for lessons? It shows that you can never pay too much for a good, or in this case one hell of a good, guitar teacher!

I found this article both funny but interesting. It makes me wonder if Ronnie’s influence played a big part in Slash’s learning curve or just something trivial.

I see similar parallels in styles but nothing that jumps out at me and says, I can see a little bit of Ronnie’s style in what Slash in playing there!

slash

Wood said, “I remember him as a kid spying on me when I was playing guitar and I’d teach him little licks, and now I’m learning licks off him, it’s really good.”

Now it seems that the teacher is no learning a thing or two from the student!

Rolling Stones Interview

June 5, 2007 by Chris

Hey, if you like the Rolling Stones you might want to take a minute and look at this video that I found. The band takes a few minutes for an interview as they prepare for their European tour.

This is a great band to see live if you ever get a chance. They just have so much energy on stage.

The Rolling Stones often come and rehearse here in Toronto before big tours, then they end up playing in a small venue just before their tour starts. We almost went to one of their pre-tour shows before their last tour.

The sweetest guitar solo ever

April 11, 2007 by Chris

Does any guitar player out there have a favorite guitar solo? Well I certainly do, it’s the one from the Rolling Stones, “Heart Breaker”, from their 1973, “Goats Head Soup” album.

This master guitar solo is played by a fellow not a full member of the group but player in the band, named Mick Taylor. This kaleidoscope of a mental voyage into another world of colorful and emotional notes, is the only lead that I have refused to figure out because some times things are made not to be reproduced but to be enjoyed and just put you in a certain mind set. I know that this sounds so unlike me but, somehow this solo just gets to me like no other.

When I listen to it, it just stops me in my tracks and I have to give Mick Taylor my complete and undivided attention. I just can’t think of any other way to describe it. I respect it like no other. It honestly freaks me out how the boys just blend off into the background and let him have full and total control of a song at that point. I still to this day don’t know how he pulled this one off being in a band with such head strong musicians!

He just squeezes and milks the hell out of his guitar and flies to such lofty heights then effortlessly soars down to earth and swoops up your emotions and takes them off to another dimension that we are afraid, but yet happy to just be brought there for such a short period of time! Then back to reality with the boys blowing the doors off the joint and do what they do best, straight forward Rock & Roll. No, I haven’t just had a huge flash back to the summer of love right in front of you, honestly!

This is a song that I will not figure out on principle. I had to give it a shot one time when I was with a student, who was my boss one time at Mr. Case in Toronto.
