It&#8217;s one of those great buildings that you drive by every day, but are not aware of it&#8217;s importance to the area. It&#8217;s seen it&#8217;s ups and downs over the years and now it&#8217;s time to place it in it&#8217;s proper place in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insidetoronto.com\/article\/73988\" rel=\"nofollow external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"ext-link\">history<\/a>!<\/p>\n<div class=\"c354d1e329b235f1862b41000f5a4d18\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: right; margin:10px 0 10px 10px;\">\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\r\ngoogle_ad_client = \"pub-3375789278566919\";\r\n\/* Guitar_inpost_300x250 *\/\r\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3631424768\";\r\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\r\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\r\n\/\/-->\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"\r\nsrc=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>Originally this great gal on the Danforth was called the <em>Allen Theatre Chain<\/em>. Back in the day they referred to it as a grand &#8220;<em>photo-play palace<\/em>.&#8221; The Theatre chain was owed by Julie and John J. Allen. <\/p>\n<p>This grand venue was home to both Vaudeville and theatrical acts as well as silent movies, which were accompanied by live piano. It has a single screen, holds multiple types of events, has 1800 seats and has been use in many movie scenes. To name just a few of the feature films shot there were <em>Chicago<\/em>, <em>How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days<\/em>, (Studio) <em>54<\/em>, <em>Bulletproof Monk<\/em> and some scenes of <em>My Big Fat Greek Wedding<\/em>.<\/p><!--CusAds-->\n<p>Their first theatre was in Brantford Ontario. In 1920 Julie and John J. Allen returned to Brantford and bought the now <em>Sanderson Centre<\/em>. After remodeling and redecorating it was opened on February 2, 1920 as the <a href=\"http:\/\/brantford.library.on.ca\/genealogy\/theatres.php\" rel=\"nofollow external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"ext-link\"><em>Allen Theatre<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Then the location changed hands in about 1929 and was called <em>Century Theatre<\/em>. They kept the <a href=\"http:\/\/ao.minisisinc.com\/Webimages\/I0021771.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"ext-link\">inside<\/a> and outside look of the building pretty much as the original. <\/p>\n<p>Some of the past acts that performed at the historic <em>Danforth Theatre &#038; Concert Hall<\/em> in the 80s and 90s were <em>The Police<\/em>, <em>Bruce Cockburn<\/em>, <em>James Brown<\/em>, <em>Duran Duran<\/em>, <em>Pat Benatar<\/em>, <em>Tom Waits<\/em>,  <em>Barenaked Ladies<\/em>, <em>The Tea Party<\/em> and <em>Blue Rodeo<\/em> just to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve only witnessed two events there, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guitarlicksandtips.com\/2008\/07\/12\/amos-lee-live\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow external noopener noreferrer\" class=\"ext-link\"><em>Amos Lee<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/feverishthoughts.com\/guitar\/2007\/08\/20\/rick-wakemans-band-is-terribly-talented\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><em>Rick Wakeman<\/em><\/a>.
