Good Grief, what else are they going to ban?
Add two more Massachusetts primary schools to the list of US schools that have been banning the age-old game of tag for fear that children may get hurt and their parents will sue. Officials at McCarthy Elementary School told the local media that the children have been ordered to invent a new no-contact version of the game for safety reasons.
“If the hands come out to touch, then the supervisors ask them to stop,” McCarthy principal Joan Vodoklys was quoted as saying in the Boston Herald Friday. “What we require is that children do not touch each other.”
Do these kids still have gym class? If they do that will probably be banned next. Don’t children need to run around and play to burn off all that extra energy? I some how made it through primary school without hurting myself so badly that my parents thought to sue the school.
What do you think of schools banning games of tag?
I am worried about the future. This is ridiculous.
I work at my childrens school as a supervisor & it does get a little ridiculous at times the rules that the children have for play.
this is really dumb. who the heck bans tag? thats like.. horrible, because tag is so much fun. and if the kids get hurt by being touched.. oh well, then tell the kids not to be as agressive. you’re not really supposed to like punch or strangle the person or whatever when you tag them, too.. so i dont see how they can really get hurt. and get hurt emotionally? how can that happen?? its fun to be “it” and to be running, too. anyone who thinks banning tag is great is seriously straight up wacko, no exceptions. i mean cmon, like everyone has played it as a kid!! those parents are wayy strict. its like.. next we should stop snowball fights because the kid will get hit by a snowball. OMG, NO WAY. way to take out the fun in things, people..

BANNING GYM CLASS?
Okay, fine.. lets get obese children then. Next, we should ban sports from kids.. because we dont want them to be touched at all. then they can get obese. okay.. now im seeing how parents might be seen. the kid will be touched in an innapropiate way? gross, when you’re younger (you cant play tag in middle school, recess ends in 6th gradE) you dont even think that way! till… 7th grade, but still, that doesnt happen alot, and if it does, whatever. people are thinking through these things too far.. just let them play, geez.
