Girls from South Korea must be breathing a sigh of relief at this news – Hot pants and miniskirts will soon be legal in South Korea.
South Korea is in the final stages of revising an indecency law that prohibits people from wearing revealing outfits and was once enforced by ruler-wielding police during authoritarian governments in the 1970s. The laws do not match current social views.
Under authoritarian rule woman were arrested or fined for their fashion choices. Scissors were also taken to men whose hair was felt to be too long. People were also tossed in jail for unauthorized dancing. The rules have been in the books even after South Korea became a democracy in the 1980’s, however the rules were no longer enforced.
Mr. Fabulous says
Yes, but the question is, when am *I* going to be allowed to wear mini skirts?
Sharon says
I’d have to toss out 3/4 of my clothing if I had to go and live in South Korea….
Rev. Qelqoth says
I’m going to go ahead and agree with Mr. Fabulous up there. But then, that’s how I roll. Ok so destination – South Korea. Best pack some roofies!
Claudine says
You should see how the Korean ladies dress in 2010! I didn’t know that these old laws existed. All of the young women wear hot pants and mini skirts, even in the winter!
