It’s an odd coincidence in Shreveport, LA hospital. Thirteen nurses from the new born intensive care unit are having babies.
An NICU nurse, Joyce Smith, who’s worked at the Christus Schumpert Sutton Children’s Medical Center for nearly 30 years says “they’re warning the staff there must be something in the water”.
The hospitals depart has of course had pregnant staff before, but never so many at one time. Two of the 13 women have already given birth, one is a new foster mom, and ten more are expecting.
Kerry Tynes, an Obstetrician says the pregnant nurses are keeping him on his toes.
Well good luck to the ladies. I hope that none of their children needs the services that the department they work in provides!

I think it is contagious. I was on fertility pills for awhile and yet never got pregnant. I stopped the pills and such and then my pregnant cousin moved in with us, after her being there for about a month I got a positive pregnancy test.

This is quite interesting! You may think that there is something in the water, but that is highly unlikely (although it’s a common knowledge that there is a lot, and I mean a lot of hormones in the water of our rivers and lakes from contraceptive pills), but I’d rather lean towards vibrational qualities of the newborn ward.

Well, if it is contagious, I was “Patient Zero” of my friends. I gave birth in October 2008. In the 12 months following that five of my friends became new moms. Not quite 13, but still something 😛

I think it can be “contagious” or cyclical. I think when you are around people of the same age with the same age kids, then when one gets pregnant you start thinking “oh, maybe it’s time for us to have another.” I know when I belonged to a mommy group when DS was small, about 7 of the women who had kids my sons age all got pregnant within 2 months of each other. So, call it “contagious” or “cyclical” (it seems that when one person gets pregnant at least one—if not more—of their friends might get pregnant as well).

It is weird. 13 pregnant nurses at the same time? I can’t believe it. .

That is so strange. I don’t think it’s contagious but maybe it puts the idea into peoples’ minds like “why don’t we have another one” and then they try and get pregnant.

Yup, I think pregnancy is definitely contagious. It is a little like marriage. You can often see it among groupd of friends and among families.
I have had two pregnancies, and both times when it was announced, members of my family and also a couple of my friends too suddenly started trying to conceive as well.
It also seems to be seasonal as well.
