Looks like I’m getting a new TV set soon! We’re renovating the basement and I think I’m going to turn it into a den / rec room. So, of course, if it’s a den I’ll need a new TV … right? You’re following my logic right?
Last time we bought a new TV we got a DLP HDTV. It’s nice but we had a lot of trouble with the first brand that we bought. We went through three of them before changing brands! I don’t even want to think about those months of having a brand new very expensive TV that didn’t work.
So this time round I’m thinking about getting an LCD TV. An HDTV of course. Now that I’m used to one I don’t think I’d want to give that up. So I’ve been reading write ups to find out what the best lcd tvs are so that we don’t run into any problems when we buy one.
I think it’s good to do some research before you purchase something that you’re going to be using for 10 years or so. It’s not like we didn’t do any research when we bought our DLP tv, we did, it’s just that the brand that we thought had the nicest picture turned out to be one heck of a lemon!
The technology isn’t as new now, especially if we go with an LCD TV so I’m sure with a little research we won’t have a problem at all.
It’ll be a few months before we are ready to buy a TV so If any of you have HD LCD TVs and want to point me towards some brands that you’ve tried I’d love to hear your suggestions.

I could use a new tv … mine is possessed and turns itself on whenever it wants and we can’t get it to stop!

You should tune into that new television show on DIY…lets see, what was that called…oh yeah…MAN CAVE. I’ll bet any show that features punching bags, pool tables, and a huge television surrounded by leather lazy-boy type chairs could give you some excellent advice. Plus you could claim you got a recommendation from THE MAN CAVE. Is there any recommendation better than that??

I’d like to get an LCD too, takes up a lot less space than the 53″ rear projection beast we have at the moment. And on top of that, it’s currently broken and gonna cost $350 to fix, argh! I’m debating whether to fix this one or just sell it as-is and put the money toward a shiny new 1080p LCD.

My friend and I are constantly debating the merits of an LCD HDTV versus an HD projector. Any input now that you have one?

LCD is drastically improved from just a couple of years ago. Direct view LCDs are almost there. They still can’t reproduce true black, but many people aren’t bothered by that.
Sorry to hear about you DLP. I still feel DLP represents the best price/performance of all current display technologies. I would only recommend people buy Mitsubishi however. Manufacturers do seem to be moving away from DLP in favor of direct view LCD and plasma, since both of those technologies have improved and are much cheaper than they have been.
5 years from now we’ll be talking about organic led displays and God knows what else.
TV Stands for LCD TVs says
I like the Sony’s and Samsung’s best, always remember to think about the TV stand before you buy a TV. It is always worth making sure the TV you buy will be compatible with the TV stand you like because the TV furniture is something you will look at everyday.

It’s a bit late but if you want to buy your next LCD TV, you should try Vizio. These are getting better and better and prices are low (as for quality and technology).
In my opinion there is no point to go for Sony or Panasonic, unless you want to spend more money.
