A man wanted for a Kmart store robbery was arrested the other day when he showed up to take a test to become a police officer.
A Chula Vista police spokesman, Bernard Gonzales, said that investigators had identified Romeo Montillano as a suspect in a December 8th robbery. Once they realized that Montillano had signed up for the February police entrance exam they just waited for him to come in to take the test.
When the man was arrested he had the gaul to ask if he would still be able to take the exam!!!
I think that would be a big NO! Instead he might end up seeing the inside of a jail cell for some time as his bail was set at $110,000.
Ventura County Bail Bonds says
As a bail bonds agent in Ventura, CA and a local blogger on the same subject, I see stories like this all the time and every time I read another one, I simply can’t believe it.
You just have to wonder what is going through their heads as they show up at the police station. I wonder if he actually studied for the exam? I wonder if he actually thought he’d get away with it?
It just defies all imagination.
Seeing that his bail was set at $110,000, he’s got quite a ways to go to get released from jail. For that amount, he needs to come up with $11K to pay a bail bondsman for his release. But, good luck with that. I’m actually surprised the judge allowed bail on this crime. And good luck finding a bail bondsman to write this bond. Seeing that this guy had the audacity to go through with this stunt, there’s no saying what he’ll do next.
Being a bail bond agent there comes a risk when bailing people out. This risk has to be assessed for each individual. The normal, DUI bail with the mother signing for her kid, is a bond that every bail agent would likely write. But this situation seems very risky for a bail bondsman and I’d be surprised if he gets bailed out.
going to prison says
This is a sad story but its pretty hilarious at the same time. Put yourself in his shoes, he probably needed that job.
