Katja Base of Norco, Calif., knew police wouldn’t be able to invest much time in investigating the vandalism of her yard.
So after she found toilet paper all over the lawn, damaged landscaping, broken light fixtures, ruined finishes on two cars and the lawn covered with dog food and flour, Base, a mother of six, took the following steps.
* 1. Asked supermarket manager to check records of recent toilet-paper purchases.
* 2. Checked store’s surveillance tape for the time of a purchase that included 144 rolls of toilet paper, dog food and flour.
* 3. Checked a school yearbook and went online to nail down the names and addresses of the teens shown on the tape.
* 4. Called police.
Six youths are now facing vandalism charges.
