In November, Britain’s Home Office announced that it agreed to a settlement to a lawsuit that had been created by 197 Heroin-addicted prisoners that it was “assault” and violation of European Convention on Human Rights for them to have been denied drugs almost immediately after they were arrested. The government has agreed to pay each of the prisoners the equivalent of about $7000.
South Koreans allowed to wear Mini-Skirts
Girls from South Korea must be breathing a sigh of relief at this news – Hot pants and miniskirts will soon be legal in South Korea.
South Korea is in the final stages of revising an indecency law that prohibits people from wearing revealing outfits and was once enforced by ruler-wielding police during authoritarian governments in the 1970s. The laws do not match current social views.
Under authoritarian rule woman were arrested or fined for their fashion choices. Scissors were also taken to men whose hair was felt to be too long. People were also tossed in jail for unauthorized dancing. The rules have been in the books even after South Korea became a democracy in the 1980’s, however the rules were no longer enforced.
3 month old Thief?
Villagers in a remote eastern India village protested after police arrived to arrest a three-month-old boy for robbery.
The boys name was subsequently dropped from a list of those accused of robbing bus passengers last week. Well yeah, the kid can’t even walk, how’s he going to rob bus passengers? An investigation is being conducted to figure out how this happened.
A police officer, Kumar, said the boy may have been named by the complainant “with a malicious intent”. Who on earth would have malicious intent against a 3 month old – more likely I believe, it was a prank.
Osama arrested on Interstate
Tom Connolly, a 49-year-old lawyer from Scarborough, Maine, may give more thought to next year’s Halloween costume. He was arrested at gunpoint and charged with criminal threatening, after he stood at a highway construction site on Interstate 295 while wearing an Osama bin Laden costume and waving a sign.
When the police officers arrived after being alerted by motorists’ calls, they found a man wearing a white robe and plastic dynamite, grenades, and a replica of an A-K-47 assault rifle.
South Portland Police Chief Ed Googins says “The whole thing is just incredibly bizarre, it just crossed the line.” Connolly, who was the Democratic nominee for governor of Maine in 1998, says he intends to plead not guilty. Interestingly, Connolly first drew national attention when he was identified as the Democrat who tipped the media to President George Bush’s 1976 drunken-driving arrest in Kennebunkport.
I hope that none of you dressed as Osama yesterday! LOL
