Manuel Uribe, the worlds heaviest man – who hasn’t left his bed in six years, married his longtime girlfriend, Claudia Solis, on Sunday in northern Mexico.
The groom wore a white silk shirt with a sheet wrapped around his legs, and his new bride, Solis, 38, wore a strapless ivory dress, a tiara and hot-pink lipstick.
400 guests attended the civil wedding ceremony and Uribe broke into tears as the notary declared the couple husband and wife He later broke into tears as a notary declared the couple husband and wife.
The traditional first dance was improvised due to Uribe’s condition. The newlyweds held hands and swayed to the romantic ballad.
The wedding will apparently be featured on an upcoming Discovery Channel documentary about Uribe.
“I have a wife and will form a new family and live a happy life,” Uribe told hordes of reporters earlier as they followed him through the streets of Monterrey.
Yes, Uribe did leave his house for the wedding, but he was on a special custom-made bed decorated with a canopy, flowers and gold trimmed bows. The bed, carried on a flatbed truck, was taken to the local event hall where the wedding took place. Two police cars escorted the flatbed carrying Uribe.
Uribe tipped the scales in 2006 at 1,230 pounds, earning him the Guinness Book of World Records’ title for the world’s heaviest man. Since that time he’s managed to lose about 550 pounds with the help of Solis whom he met four years ago. Uribe stated that he’s gunning for a new world title – World’s largest weight loser.
