At the beginning of March organizers in Taiwan lit up an 8.1 mile string of explosives in a Southern Taiwanese county in the hopes of creating the worlds longest firecracker. The continuous explosions of the line of firecrackers lasted approximately two hours.
Rapid flashes of bright red explosions that created huge wafts of white smoke were shown on televsion during the Chinese New Year celebration in Tainan County. The celebration had been dubbed “Legend of the Fire Dragon”.
Those gathered to witness theGuinness World record breaking attemptwore masks, goggles and even motorcycle helmets to protect themselves from the pollution.
The attempt to break the world record will be verified by Guinness officials. Spain holds the current world record for the longest continuously burning firecracker. Spains record breaking firecracker was seven miles long.
