A woman in labor caused a high-speed train to make an unscheduled stop when the 21 year old woman gave birth to a baby girl in the restaurant car.
The train had been traveling between the capital, Lisbon, and the Countries second largest city, Porto, when the woman went into labor.
The ticket collector and one of the kitchen workers went to the womans aid, but a male nurse answered the call over the trains intercom system and ended up assisting the woman with the delivery.
The mother and baby girl were taken to the hospital when the train stopped at the first available station. The baby girl is to be baptized with the name Mariana. Both mother and baby are healthy and in good condition.
