Why you&#8217;d take a cab wouldn&#8217;t you? <\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s what Betty and Bob Matas, neither of whom drive, did when they wanted to spare their cats an airplane trip as they moved from New York to a retirement home 90 miles north of Phoenix. <\/p>\n<div class=\"b1291d92551e5c93995fce7897ccfc30\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: right; margin:10px 0 10px 10px;\">\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\r\ngoogle_ad_client = \"pub-3375789278566919\";\r\n\/* OddPlanet_300x250_inpost *\/\r\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3290981241\";\r\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\r\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\r\n\/\/-->\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"\r\nsrc=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>They left their Queen&#8217;s New York neighborhood on April 10th in a canary yellow ford SUV cab and traveled about 10 hours a day for a flat rate of $3000 plus gas, meals and lodging. Luckily the SUV was a hybrid-electric vehicle and that lessened the cost of buying gas. <\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153It was pretty tiring, for my wife especially,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Bob Matas, 72, a former audio and video engineer for advertising agencies. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re happy where we are. We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re happy and that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s it.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><!--CusAds-->\n<p>Matas said he was \u00e2\u20ac\u0153flabbergasted\u00e2\u20ac\u009d by the attention surrounding the couple\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s trip. Passers-by recognized them when they saw the New York cab, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Every state that we hit, people would say, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcAre you the ones?\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and we would say, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcYes, we are the ones,\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Matas said.<\/p>\n<p>The Mayor of Sedona welcomed them as they arrived with a noontime ceremony a couple of weeks ago.  They were presented with a bag of Sedona souvenirs.  Their real estate agent met them at the ceremony and gave them the keys to their new Village of Oak Creek home. <\/p>\n<!--CusAds--><p>The couple stayed in a hotel for a few days while their belongings were moved into their new house.
