Colorful Crocus’

These lovely, colorful, Crocus’ were blooming in my garden on Saturday. That day was absolutely beautiful, it reached 14 Celsius here in Toronto and I was able to get out and not only photograph the flowers that were blooming but do some much needed work in the garden.

Unfortunately the nice weather didn’t last. On Monday we had a snow storm .. well, ok, it’s still snowing! So much for Spring! At least I know the weather will be nice again in a few days and the snow will melt.

Hellebore – the Christmas Rose

It’s said that Hellebores bloom in the snow, often around Christmas time – but mine don’t! Mine bloom near the end of March or early April. They are not blooming yet, but their leaves are greening up so I expect to see lovely flowers like the one above (photo take a few years ago in my yard) very soon.

The Hellebore is such a lovely flower, it’s a shame that the flowers droop down. To take pictures of them I have to prop the flower head up on a leaf or gently hold it’s stem with my hand while trying to keep my hand or fingers out of the picture. I guess they make more work for me when I’m trying to photograph them, but it’s worth it.

French Marigolds

These are French Marigolds. I grow them around the border of my planted boulevard garden.

As you can see I also have a short bamboo fence in my little garden. It helps separate the planted area from the sidewalk. The short fence is very helpful in the spring as it lets people know that they shouldn’t walk in that area. This of course is before barely any plants have come up or when they are still quite small. I just hate having my plants trampled by people who seems to prefer to walk on the grass rather than the sidewalk!

Pasque flower

It’s such a shame that these lovely delicate blooms only flower for approximately one week each spring. I love their delicate flower and fuzzy leaves.

I have a couple of Pasque flower plants and each produce only one or two flowers in Mid May. Once the weather starts to warm the blooms fade and the plants die down as if they were never there, only to return again each spring.
