I can still remember a time not too long ago when I was seriously starting to believe that the electric guitar was breathing its last breaths. Do you also remember when pop music seemed to be taking over the world? Instead of wanting to learn to play electric guitar, it seemed to me that becoming the next Backstreet Boys spin-off was the coolest thing ever, at least according to the rest of the pop world.
Well, thank all that is good and holy, the days of the electric guitar is upon us once again. A few important bands played a crucial part in bringing rock back to life and that means that more people than ever want to learn to play electric guitar. Some of the world’s best electric guitar players are found in jazz and blues, and there is definitely also place for electric guitars in pop, country, metal and every other genre you can think of.

You can either buy effects pedals or just tweak some setting on your own setup to produce very unique sounds. Some of the world’s best guitarists use both of these methods to achieve amazing results.

Hey,
I always wanted to learn how to play the guitar ever since I went to the AC~DC Concert in Fort Lauderdale. Angus was amazing and was definitely one of the best shows I have ever been to in a long time. Do you think I can get lessons to play like that ever.

When I first decided I wanted to play guitar, many years ago, I bypassed the usual route of starting with an acoustic and went right to electric guitar. It was an off-brand that cost $75. And I bought an old ‘one knob’ Fender Champ Amp for $75 also (worth a lot more now days). I took only a few basic lessons, but learned more from playing with others.

you might be able to come really close but the only thing that should matter the most Adi is that you enjoy your playing! It’s nice to be able to play LIKE someone but it’s just a small part of playing guitar my friend! Just keep on Jammin and as long as you think your great then maybe it’s just a case of mind over matter!
Keep on Jammin’ Adi!!!

Hey Fuzz pedal, that’s great to see that it worked out for ya! Everyone is different in how they approach learning how to play.
I found out that jamming with others is the best way to go as well! A buddy of mine named Eddie Myers was a huge factor/influence on me. He was able to play the guitar like some of the past greats. The biggest thing that he showed me was “the feel” or “being in the groove” which you can’t get from any book.
Congrats on your playing Fuzz Pedal!

I have had formal training early on. It started out classical. I hated it and of course now as an adult wish that I had stuck with it. Went to an at home teacher and was playing top 40 in a few weeks. (not very well but still playing songs) I agree with Chris that jamming with others is a great way to learn especially if you meet the right bunch that are willing to share, teach and experiment. I learned a lot of great technique from another guitarist that I had never met until we jammed together with a common friend one day. There are lots of great lessons / free demos on how to play just about anything on youtube. I go there often and check out several guitarists as everyone is unique and some are better teachers than others. Keep on Jammin’ -therustyfender
