Trivia about Vigilants

August 25, 2009 by Chris

This is just a little post about some good old buddies of mine from the band Vigilants that came out of Brantford Ontario way back in the 80’s!

I’ve been doing a stay-cation this year and I was just searching for topics to write about, here on this blog. Today I was going through the Canadian Pop Encyclopedia website and I happen to some across a listing for Vigilants! It’s great to see that friends will be remembered for their hard work in the future in this way. Hats off to you guys!

A 4-piece hard rock act from Brantford, The Vigilants won Q107’s annual Homegrown contest and used the money to record their EP ‘Run For Cover’.

The record featured guest vocals by Lee Aaron who also appeared in the video.

So check out this link to the site. Ah, the memories.

I know some of you have seen this old video of the band, especially on Facebook(thanx Domenic for the video link!) but I just wanted to show some of you who haven’t, enjoy!

Keep on Jammin’ Vigilants from Brantford!

Flight of the Conchords

March 10, 2008 by Chris

Has anyone ever seen these guys on TV? I happened by chance to see their show on HBO and I was immediately hooked!

It’s all about these Kiwis, (Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement),that moved to New York to further their singing career. The songs that they create are about everyday people and their fantasy’s plus, modest ambitions of what they could achieve if they only had faith in themselves. They’re dry sense of humor is so captivating that you just can’t keep your eyes off the TV.

I know that everyone has had friends like these guys in the past and later on in life you have to wonder what had happened to them? Well here is one ending to that thought that will leave you wanting to know more!

Check outnight gig and play the little combo video game and video!

So check out your TV guide and start watching, in the words of the theme song to Family guy they’ll “make us laugh and cry!”

Who says white guys aren’t fly!

Keep on Jammin’

Indie Update – read about up and coming Indie Bands

October 22, 2007 by Chris

You just have to love Indie music! Since the turn of the millennium Indie bands have been using the Internet to promote their music and they’ve been quite successful. Their success of course is directly related to consumers use of the internet as a medium for listening to new music, gathering current information about bands and of course buying the music produced by these bands.

Another great thing about the success of Indie music on the internet is that these bands don’t have to bow down to the rules of the big labels. They can stay true to their music. Some of these brave souls just like to create music to be appreciated and listened to while someone else takes the spot light, no biggie for them.

I recently visited the indie music blog. It’s official name is Indie Update. On this site you’ll find honest articles and opinions about up and coming Indie bands.

One of the write ups – The onerepublic review – talks about how this indie band has had great success on MySpace and how Myspace is offering Indie bands a great new way to gain exposure. I believe that each of the Indie band articles on this blog have a link to each bands MySpace page where you can listen to samples of the bands music and learn more about the band members.

I was captivated by the Indie Music history series. In this series of post you can read how Indie music came about and how it’s evolved from the 1960’s to the present day. The author has really done their research for these Indie Music History posts. I’m sure you’ll be fascinated when you read them.

If you enjoy Indie Music I think you’ll want to bookmark or subscribe to the Indie Music blogs rss feed so that you can keep up with the latest Indie bands on the scene.
