The other day when I saw sites across the board having their page rank lowered by Google I started to not feel quite as bad about losing some of my page rank. Hey, after all, it seems just about everyone’s in the same boat!
There’s been a lot of speculation as to what caused Google to hit so many sites by lowering their page ranks. Everything from speculation as to whether it was caused by paid links or networking too many sites and so on.
I run one of the Do follow blogrolls. Well, I think the only do follow blogroll and I’ve had a few people decide to drop off the list as a result of the google hits. Personally I don’t think being do follow has anything to do with all of our PR loses. I mean, I’ve been a do follow blogger for almost two years and this is the first time I’ve ever taken a google hit!
Well, ok, the last update my html based website went from a PR5 to a PR4 but I believe that was mostly because I hadn’t updated the site with any new articles for a long while. Hey … it’s got about 1000 pages – how much more can I write about exotic pet keeping on the site anyway? Really!
But this time around? Every single site I own, even ones that I do not sell links of any kind on have been hit!
Oh well, like I said, it looks like we’re all in the same boat. It will be interesting to see what happens if Google ever gets around to doing a proper page rank update.
The trouble is, if they really are upset with those that sell links or who have committed some other kind of infraction against Google … well that’s just going to make people get better at hiding what they are doing. I can see people starting to use code or cipher to encrypt their links to mask what they are doing.
Don’t you see something like that happening too? I mean, no one’s just going to give in and stop making the money that they have been just because of Google are they?

I am super new, so my PR 0 stayed there! I am trying to learn so much but it is certainly amoving target and no one knows for sure what the math is based on. I guess you just have to do the basics well. New content, new links, relevant links, etc! Good luck! Jessica
Exotic pet keeping huh? I’ll have to check that out.

Sorry to hear about your PR loss. Though it seems that if so many people are being dropped a rank, it wouldn’t really matter for individual sites. You’ll still be in the same position relative to all of your competitors.

A lot of people got hit by Google recently. My company was renting a link on SEroundtable.com and pulled off right before they went from a pr7 to a pr4. What’s stupid is this only effects toolbar pagerank not actual floating integer pagerank that Google uses in their algo.

Drivel went from a 4 to a 5, but Directives went from a 4 to 3. I only do the paid ads on Directives. Sigh…

In fact, I have been running three blogspot blogs with PR0. One of them shot to PR4 and the two others went to PR3.
I am gung go at the moment.

All of my sites took a hit and I didn’t even buy links.
I guess the sites that linked to me did…

Hi there
I came across your site because it was on a list of sites that have NO nofollow. I have been going down the list, which has a few hundred sites, and not one has a page rank!!! I am almost sure that a fair few of them had PR the other day!!!
Are you sure its not the NO nofollow thing?
