A recent poll has show that British people are not addicted to drugs, women and other such things but their mobile phones. The poll states that a whopping 88% of us will not leave our homes without taking our mobile phone. This is simply saying that as a country without mobile phones we would come to a halt. Whats this also means is that a whopping 53,658,000 phones are carried around in bags and pockets in the streets of the UK every single day. It is a fact that Britain as a whole sends over 1 Billion texts a week which actually puts us up into the top 6 for texting in the world which is silly if you consider how small Britain is.
The poll went on to say that over anything else a mobile is the one thing we will always take with us even over a wallet or purse which is most certainly a huge eye opener. Funnily enough the midlands saw the best/worst result depending on how you look at things with a massive 98% of people saying they carried it with them every single day.
The main question to ask is why? It really is rather simple. The amount of things a mobile phone can now do is astronomical ranging from a simple text or call to checking the bank details online or even getting insurance quotes. The mobile phone is one of those technology’s that seems to be advancing more and more not every year but every few months with some phones even now containing voice recognition! As well as this you can now watch television as well as your favourite film all from the touch of a button on the phone as well as look at quotes from different car insurance firms!
Of course it does mean that muggings have risen simply because there are simply more phones out there to take as well as the question are we becoming too dependent on technology? It was certainly not like this thirty years ago and it seems that as the generations go on we are becoming lazier and lazier.
If technology is your thing then why not look for gadget insurance to make sure your favourite new gadget is protected against anything and everything!

good post! mobile phone is a tool to help people connect each other, but for me the phone doesn’t replace my social life, the tool just help us to make communication is easier and effective. But you have a good point there, I’m also a man who carried the phone every single day. 🙂

If we sincerely think about our dependency upon technology it can be easily understood that their presence has surely made our life style more easy and compatible…I really don’t think mobile and TV has ruined my social life.In fact watching in TV we get more reasons to celebrate and meet every one.

Interesting stats, huge numbers given the size of the country. I always have my phone with me; but would never consider taking it with me instead of my purse. That’s foolish in my opinion. I do see young kids with keys in one hand and cell in another. Or sticking out of too tight jeans, making both easy to steal. Then when they’re robbed or drop them/ loose them they wonder why. Also, they have no identification if they’re not carrying a wallet or purse which is stupid. Sorry, I know the word isn’t nice; but it is just plain stupid given how much goes on in todays world. Someone still’s your phone, you have no money, no ID…Dahhhhhhhh
Replace my social life, NO! Use it instead of talking to the people I’m with NO. But, you see it everywhere. People sitting at the same table dinning and both talking on phones, or texting paying no attention to each other. It’s rude and in that case I would say, YES the phone has replace proper social interaction.

I would argue that the level of interaction we now have at our finger tips should enhance our social lives! Always hearing about events/parties…and facebook will never let me forget another birthday!

Contrary to popular belief, the Internet and mobile phones are not isolating people but enhancing their social worlds, according to a US survey.
The survey was sparked by a 2006 study by US sociologists who argued technology is advancing a trend seen since 1985 — Americans becoming more socially isolated, their social networks shrinking, and the diversity of their contacts decreasing.
But the study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project, titled “Social Isolation and New Technology,†found people’s use of mobile phones and the Internet is actually associated with larger and more diverse social networks.

Interesting topic. But not, mobile phone will never replace a social life. Like electronic paper have not replaced regular newspapers.
