I’m sick of being slapped around

by Tricia

Seriously. Is Google still slapping bloggers around or what?

One of my few remaining main blogs that had PR after the last Google slap just lost PR today. It’s down to a big fat zero.

Why?

I’ve slowed down on posting on all my sites quite a bit over the last few months – in part due to our new puppy (very sick for first month with us) – and if there was anything wrong with what I was doing in the past there really shouldn’t be anything wrong now. My sites are all cleaned up – free of any badges that it seems the big G doesn’t like anymore or perhaps never liked because those companies must have threatened Google’s Adsense biz.

I think this whole thing is ridiculous. I mean Google is selectively penalizing certain bloggers while exempting “A” list bloggers from their slap. Is there really something terribly wrong with making some money writing about sites or products that you would have written about anyway? No. I don’t think so.

Not that I’ve done many posts on this site in the last few months, but I can say that there hasn’t been a pa1d review on this site for 3+ months.

So how many of you got hit by Google?

by Tricia

The other day when I saw sites across the board having their page rank lowered by Google I started to not feel quite as bad about losing some of my page rank. Hey, after all, it seems just about everyone’s in the same boat!

There’s been a lot of speculation as to what caused Google to hit so many sites by lowering their page ranks. Everything from speculation as to whether it was caused by paid links or networking too many sites and so on.

I run one of the Do follow blogrolls. Well, I think the only do follow blogroll and I’ve had a few people decide to drop off the list as a result of the google hits. Personally I don’t think being do follow has anything to do with all of our PR loses. I mean, I’ve been a do follow blogger for almost two years and this is the first time I’ve ever taken a google hit!

Well, ok, the last update my html based website went from a PR5 to a PR4 but I believe that was mostly because I hadn’t updated the site with any new articles for a long while. Hey … it’s got about 1000 pages – how much more can I write about exotic pet keeping on the site anyway? Really!

But this time around? Every single site I own, even ones that I do not sell links of any kind on have been hit!

Oh well, like I said, it looks like we’re all in the same boat. It will be interesting to see what happens if Google ever gets around to doing a proper page rank update.

The trouble is, if they really are upset with those that sell links or who have committed some other kind of infraction against Google … well that’s just going to make people get better at hiding what they are doing. I can see people starting to use code or cipher to encrypt their links to mask what they are doing.

Don’t you see something like that happening too? I mean, no one’s just going to give in and stop making the money that they have been just because of Google are they?

From out of the blue comes a writing offer

by Tricia

I’m feeling out of sorts and kind of confused today. I’ve been trying my hardest to catch up on built up work, and to secure more internet/blog related work all day while fending off email!

I just received acceptance into BlogCritics but for the life of me, I don’t remember ever applying to be a writer there. It’s definitely an honor to be accepted, but the email kind of hit me from behind!

Actually I just got word back from Eric at Blogcritics and he was responding to a request that was actually written by my husband. You see, since I have more blogs than my husband I put him on promo duty a little while ago and he’s been working to get our sites listed in the various blog and RSS feed directories for the past month or so. I find lists of directories and put him on the job.

Well, it turns out BlogCritics was on one of the lists that I found and assigned to him and he wrote to the owner of the site hoping to get our blogs listed. He didn’t realize that he was applying for ME to become a writer/contributer there!

Well … they sound interested in having me do some writing over there so I might as well give it a try!

Kind of strange how that came about isn’t it? Well at least I know I didn’t apply and forget about it. It was my husband!
