We’ve got to get a new TV

by Tricia

I think it’s about time that my husband and I start looking for a new television set. We have a fairly nice Samsung DLP that we bought in 2004, but the light bulb has burned out twice now and the price of a new DLP light is NOT going down.

Also, when the TV’s on it hums. A high pitched hum that just drives me nuts. I’m sure it’s coming from the fan that’s on the light light bulb mount. I haven’t found much information about others complaining of this problem but I hate it. So it’s time to get a new TV.

Oh don’t worry. The DLP was very very expensive. We won’t be throwing it away. We’ll use it in the basement rec room, but it will no longer be the main TV for our household. Actually if we don’t use it as often we won’t have to replace that darn expensive light bulb as often.

The bulb costs over $400! We’ve replaced it twice. If we didn’t want an HDTV I suppose we could have bought another set just with what we’ve paid for those two light bulbs. Crazy huh.

So I’ve been looking at TV review sites. I found a nice one that has lcd tv reviews. It seems to have articles about all the main models and since we’re now thinking of an LCD or Plasma TV it’s a good place to start.

Do you know of any other television set sites that I should take a look at?

Removing widgets to speed up site load

by Tricia

Earlier this evening I discovered that my sites were hanging. I could see that it was the blogcatalog widget that was hanging. I guess they had a problem with their site late in the evening.

That’s the trouble with widgets and badges and banners that have to pull data from another site. If the site is overloaded with visitors or is having a problem it can affect how your own site loads.

I’ve noticed many times that the mybloglog and the blogcatalog widgets have slowed my sites and others that I’ve visited, but it was the worst I’ve ever seen it tonight. So I took both widgets off of all my and my husbands blogs.

The sites seem to load much faster to me now. Well unless something else causes it to slow down. I’ve noticed that in the early morning hours Adbrite, Technorati, and the Truth Laid Bare codes can cause a bit of slow down in loading.

Have you removed your widgets or any other links to speed up the loading of your site? If so, which ones did you remove?

Accoona Corp’s innovative lead generation service

by Tricia

Have you heard of Accoona Corp? It’s a company who’s goal is to become one of the leading companies in online lead generation. Accoona has three main focus’ which involve online search in China, the USA and Europe, as well as eCommerce consumer electronic retailing and of course online-based lead generation.

The company was founded in 2004 and has unfortunately been associated in the past with the notorious armand rousso. They no longer have any dealings with Rousso.

Accoona prides itself in the fact that it’s the first online marketplace where advertisers interested in a range of products and services can bid for said leads.

Actually their lead generation service sounds very innovative. It’s an interactive cross-industry pay per lead bidding system and online advertising platform. Buyers and sellers are pre-screened and matched using online and offline direct response channels. Often this takes place in real time.

Advertisers can sign up for a free account and then manage their bids and budgets using Accoona’s self serve console. Consumers are then matched to the advertisers after filling out a simple questionnaire. The consumer then receives targeted product and service offers.

It sounds like this is a company to keep an eye on.
