Twitter Dos and Don’ts

by Tricia

Useful Tips for Twitter

These days it seems that you can’t escape stories about the latest social networking phenomenon, Twitter.  With all the hype and celebrity endorsements, lots of people are asking “how do I use Twitter?”.

There are plenty of sites out there that will tell you how to use Twitter, but not so many to warn you of the pitfalls. If you take a minute to learn from this list of handy Twitter tips then you’ll be Twittering away with the best of them.

DO watch what you say.Unless your updates are protected, anyone can see what you are currently Tweeting.Bear in mind the story of the girl who managed to Tweet her way out of a job because a hiring manager read her thoughts on the position she interviewed for.

DON’T use Twitter for a chat client.  No one wants to their screen full of irrelevant Tweets from a conversation they’re forced to eavesdrop on.

DO remember to retweet other people.  This can be a good way to build up a following of likeminded Twitterers.

DON’T endlessly try to sell things.Okay, we get it – you have your own blog.Twitter is by no means one way traffic – tweet back!

DO follow people back, but….

DON’T be offended if someone doesn’t follow you back.Users with tens of thousands of followers are unlikely to see your Tweet through the hundreds of other tweets anyway.

DO try to be funny, entertaining, informative and creative with your tweets.

DON’T auto-DM.This is the Twitter equivalent of spam and a faceless “hi – thanks for following” is impersonal and can be off-putting.

DO use it to ask other people for help.Once you have built up a reasonable following you’ll find it easy to find answers to your questions in no time.

DON’T twit anything if your message is going to exceed 140 characters.  Spreading a message over multiple tweets is just going to confuse and irritate your followers.

These handy hints should be enough to get you started.  If you are likely to spend a significant proportion of your online time on Twitter then there are plenty of guides on the net telling you how to use Twitter effectively.

Five Great Reasons Why You Should Install Anti-Spyware Programs Onto Your Home Computer

by Tricia

Spyware, by definition, is computer application installed in a computer without the user’s awareness and consent. Though it is a common understanding that spyware unobtrusively observes user behavior, spyware extends beyond simple observing of actions. In addition to observing a user’s activities on their systems, spyware possesses the capability to get specific facts about the person’s, browsing history, and can even manipulate and control the computer system in several ways.

Spyware can install other applications that the individual would not ordinarily utilize, permit access to possibly dangerous websites, or redirect promotional income. Nearly all spyware applications trick users into installing them, by disguising themselves as valid software. Usually it requires smart anti-spyware programs to find and delete them.

Apart from these, system configurations can be altered that affect things like connection speed, homepage configurations, and absolute loss of important software. Spyware causes numerous other harmful results, and below a few are discussed in more detail.

Advertisements

The vast majority of spyware programs cause pop-up advertisements to appear. These pop up at particular time periods and circumstances, perhaps each time a user goes to a certain website, or whenever they open another browser window. Spyware offers this as an attractive utility for third-party advertisers. Promotional positions are given to them, and making money from advertisers is one of the purposes behind spyware programs’ records collecting activities.

Users object and grumble over pop-up advertisements as they find them invasive and bothersome. The majority of pop-ups use animation or flickering banners that users also find distracting. There may also be advertisements for pornographic sites that display indiscriminately. These ads are not only distracting; they may disobey anti-pornography laws in several countries or states.

Identity Stealing and Fraud

One of the most hazardous effects of spyware is certainly identity theft. A few spyware software transmit data such as usernames, passwords, and even bank or investment account information from your computer system, to another person.  In recent years, innumerable individuals have become victims of identity theft, resulting in billions of dollars of losses for individuals and corporations alike.

Private Affairs

As amazing as it sounds, spyware has also been found to intrude on private relationships as well. One application, at least, has been specifically promoted for this aim alone. Loverspy was meant to monitor partner behavior and expose disloyalty, if any. Observing an individual’s activity without their consent and monitoring information even on public or conjugal property, is illegal in particular regions. Creators and users of the software were accused on charges of wiretapping and associated computer offenses.

Do You Do Blogging? Try Blogging Guides To Be More Creative

by Tricia

There are literally millions of blogs on the net. Most people who start blogging do so for the sheer pleasure of the activity. You write about what you know. All of a sudden, you’re receiving responses from people all over the world. These responses naturally fuel your enthusiasm. You write more. More people jump in to have their say. Before you know it, you’ve got a sizable amount of traffic.

However, you’re not making any money from your efforts and your passion for your subject is taking more and more of your time and more server space than you’d counted on when you began. In short, your blog is starting to cost you in both time and money. Isn’t there a way to generate some income? Indeed, there are many ways.

You need to acquaint yourself with the world of net marketing, if you want to make a profit. After all, people are interested in what you have to say. Maybe now’s the time to consider the leap to your own online business. With good management strategies, you could quit your ‘day job’ and do just fine!

Here’s how it goes, you have a popular blog site with a regular stream of people commenting and visiting it. First thing to ask, do you have any ads posted? Any links to direct your readers to additional material? Does it have any streaming audio or RSS feeds? If you said “no,” to most of these, then it’s time for an upgrade. Knowing about these things can help you turn your regular blog into something more profitable. The best way to do this is to learn from blogging guides.

Blogging guides do not generally teach you how to write. You’ve got that down. What blogging guides do teach you is how to market your blog. While you may have an indestructible rapport with your readers, that won’t make you any money. You need targeted ads for products and services your readers are looking for, to enhance their knowledge or skill sets.

Let’s say, you’re writing about greenhouse gardening. Most of your readers would want further information about how to build and maintain them. They would want books that teach them more information or a company where they can order materials from. Just about any further information would be appreciated by your readers.

You know how to find what your readers want. You need to know how to form affiliate agreements, whereby your link to greenhouse garden products results in a commission for you, when your reader clicks through and buys that product.

If you’re not currently integrating relevant graphics, submitting to directories and social networking sites, you’re missing out on lots of traffic. If you’re not conversant in Search Engine Optimization (SEO), you need to get on the ball!

There are free blogging tutorials to get you started. Once you’ve got a handle on how to make money, invest in a good blogging guide. You’ll make money!
