Exchange audio and video files from one handheld device to another

by Tricia

Earlier I spoke about the wide assortment of audio and video related software that can be downloaded from AVS4YOU. I’d just like to take a moment to tell you about one particular software product that I think you’ll find extremely useful.

I think I must be one of the few people in the world that has yet to buy an iPod. Isn’t that terrible? However, with iPods being all the rage these days I really do think that you will like using the AVS iDevice Explorer. You can do so many things with this software.

You can use the iDevice explorer to synchronize and exchange all of your favorite videos and songs between multiple ipods.

What if you want to exchange music and videos between other multimedia players and mobile devices?

You can.

This compact application will allow you to exchange files between popular products such as Sony PSP’s, Apple ipod, Samsung YP-T9, SanDisk Sansa e200 series players, Archos DVRAV500/AV700, 404/504/604, iRiver H10 player, Epson P-2000/P-4000, mobile phones for GSM and CDMA networks, and Portable Media Players (PMP).

You can exchange files between all of the above listed devices simply and easily without copying them to your computers hard drive.

This screen shot shows how simple it is to view the files on one device and select them to be copied and or exchanged with those on another device:

You can watch and manage the transfer of files from one device to another, as well as manage the file and folder structure on your portable device using the AVS iDevice software.

Another thing that I like about the AVS iDevice is that it supports cross-format conversion. What that means is that it will automatically convert a media file as it’s copying it from one device to another into the receiving handheld devices accepted or supported format.

You can use the standard USB connection, Bluetooth or IrDA to exchange files between mobile devices.

So how much does this great program cost?

Well, the AVS iDevice Explorer is part of the AVS4YOU.com package that I mentioned in an earlier post. For the low cost of $29 you can download and use all 27 software tools in the AVS4YOU.com package.

You’ll be able to download software, as well as get patches and upgrades during the year if you choose the $29 subscription package. If you purchase the $59 lifetime AVS4YOU package you’ll be able to download all of the AVS tools for an unlimited amount of time.

Read the AVS4YOU post that I wrote earlier and you can learn more about the 26 other AVS tools that will allow you to edit, convert and rip audio and video files, as well as create ringtones, burn DVD’s and a whole lot more.

I’m impressed with the line up of products that AVS has produced and I’m considering registering with AVS4YOU as I do quite a bit of audio and video editing for my websites.

Too much work?

by Tricia

Would it be terrible of me to say I have too much work?

I started out with my first website in 1995 and believe it or not that website is still in existence. In fact it’s my most popular website.

Lately though I’ve gotten into writing blogs and as a result of having so many different blogs I’ve also managed to find ways to monetize them and earn a decent income off of them. I’m actually earning enough now that I can live off of it.

The trouble is most of my income comes in because I actually manually do the work. That is I write posts or write on blogs for compensation. Is it terrible to complain that I have too many offers?

Every day I have at least one email from someone asking me to try out their product or write about their site. It’s getting crazy! I’ve also had two offers to be a guest speaker at blogging or webmaster related seminars!

I think I might have to step back a bit and take a good look at what I’m doing and where I want it to take me so that I can plan my work schedule better and perhaps find a happy medium while I still continue to earn enough to live off of.

Move data from one blog to a WordPress blog

by Tricia

Did you know that with the new 2.1+ version of WordPress you can easily move Data such as comments, and posts from one WP blog to another?

Lets say that you want to move files from a site called mydomainA.com to another called mydomainB.com. Now it doesn’t mater if these blogs are on the same domain as in myblog.com/blog or blog.myblog.com or different domains altogether. What matters is that both must be using the same version of WordPress.

Here’s how you do it:

1. Make sure your blogs are using WP 2.1 + and that both are using the same version – if they aren’t you need to upgrade your WordPress version first.

2. Back up your files on each blog!

You can backup your blog in two fairly simple ways:

A. Use a WordPress Backup plugin and download the backup to your computer

B. Or, If your web host uses C-Panel Login to your C-Panel and click on the icon marked BackUp. You can do a full backup of your home directory and or you can download copies of your MySql database(s).

Personally – If I’m doing a big job like a major upgrade or transferring files I backup with the plugin AND with the C-Panel backup service. Better safe than sorry is what I always say.

If you did happen to download the WordPress backup plugin I would seriously consider using it to backup your blog at least once week. My former web host shut down my account at the beginning of February without notice and for a short while I didn’t know if I could get backups of my sites. It was a very scary and stressful time. Be smarter than I was – backup your sites regularly!

Back to transferring data such as posts from one blog to another …

Now that you are done upgrading WordPress if you needed to, and backing up your sites you can begin to transfer your files from one site to another.

I’m describing this as if it’s two wordpress blogs, but WordPress has made it easier to transfer files from say blogger or a Typepad blog into a WordPress blog using similar methods. However, since I don’t use other blogging platforms I’m only going to discuss the procedure for moving data from one WordPress blog to another:

3. Open up the ADMIN area of both of your wordpress blogs

4. In the MANAGE section of mydomainA.com (this is the blog you want to move files from) select EXPORT and download the export file to your computer.

5. In the MANAGE section of mydomainB.com (the blog you want to move files to) select IMPORT, then select WordPress from the list and find the export file that you just saved to your computer and import it into the mydomainA.com blog.

If all has gone well you should have all the posts from MydomainB.com in your MydomainA.com blog. Easy eh?

If things didn’t go well at least you have the backups that you made before hand. You did make the backup files didn’t you? You can re-install your backups if needed through C-Panels MySQL section. It’s a bit complicated and since everything hopefully went well I’m not going to describe how to do that in this post.

This is one of the features that I like best about the new WordPress 2.1+ version. They’ve made it so much easier to transfer files from one blog to another, or to even use the export feature as a method of backing up your files.

I hope that you’ve found this post helpful.
