We’ve got to get a new TV

by Tricia

I think it’s about time that my husband and I start looking for a new television set. We have a fairly nice Samsung DLP that we bought in 2004, but the light bulb has burned out twice now and the price of a new DLP light is NOT going down.

Also, when the TV’s on it hums. A high pitched hum that just drives me nuts. I’m sure it’s coming from the fan that’s on the light light bulb mount. I haven’t found much information about others complaining of this problem but I hate it. So it’s time to get a new TV.

Oh don’t worry. The DLP was very very expensive. We won’t be throwing it away. We’ll use it in the basement rec room, but it will no longer be the main TV for our household. Actually if we don’t use it as often we won’t have to replace that darn expensive light bulb as often.

The bulb costs over $400! We’ve replaced it twice. If we didn’t want an HDTV I suppose we could have bought another set just with what we’ve paid for those two light bulbs. Crazy huh.

So I’ve been looking at TV review sites. I found a nice one that has lcd tv reviews. It seems to have articles about all the main models and since we’re now thinking of an LCD or Plasma TV it’s a good place to start.

Do you know of any other television set sites that I should take a look at?

Exchange audio and video files from one handheld device to another

by Tricia

Earlier I spoke about the wide assortment of audio and video related software that can be downloaded from AVS4YOU. I’d just like to take a moment to tell you about one particular software product that I think you’ll find extremely useful.

I think I must be one of the few people in the world that has yet to buy an iPod. Isn’t that terrible? However, with iPods being all the rage these days I really do think that you will like using the AVS iDevice Explorer. You can do so many things with this software.

You can use the iDevice explorer to synchronize and exchange all of your favorite videos and songs between multiple ipods.

What if you want to exchange music and videos between other multimedia players and mobile devices?

You can.

This compact application will allow you to exchange files between popular products such as Sony PSP’s, Apple ipod, Samsung YP-T9, SanDisk Sansa e200 series players, Archos DVRAV500/AV700, 404/504/604, iRiver H10 player, Epson P-2000/P-4000, mobile phones for GSM and CDMA networks, and Portable Media Players (PMP).

You can exchange files between all of the above listed devices simply and easily without copying them to your computers hard drive.

This screen shot shows how simple it is to view the files on one device and select them to be copied and or exchanged with those on another device:

You can watch and manage the transfer of files from one device to another, as well as manage the file and folder structure on your portable device using the AVS iDevice software.

Another thing that I like about the AVS iDevice is that it supports cross-format conversion. What that means is that it will automatically convert a media file as it’s copying it from one device to another into the receiving handheld devices accepted or supported format.

You can use the standard USB connection, Bluetooth or IrDA to exchange files between mobile devices.

So how much does this great program cost?

Well, the AVS iDevice Explorer is part of the AVS4YOU.com package that I mentioned in an earlier post. For the low cost of $29 you can download and use all 27 software tools in the AVS4YOU.com package.

You’ll be able to download software, as well as get patches and upgrades during the year if you choose the $29 subscription package. If you purchase the $59 lifetime AVS4YOU package you’ll be able to download all of the AVS tools for an unlimited amount of time.

Read the AVS4YOU post that I wrote earlier and you can learn more about the 26 other AVS tools that will allow you to edit, convert and rip audio and video files, as well as create ringtones, burn DVD’s and a whole lot more.

I’m impressed with the line up of products that AVS has produced and I’m considering registering with AVS4YOU as I do quite a bit of audio and video editing for my websites.

Get a free Samsung Upstage with a Sprint service package

by Tricia

samsung_m620_sprint_z1.jpg I’m sure you keep hearing about the Apple iPhone. It seems that’s all anyone talks about these days when they talk about new cell phones. It’s strange though isn’t it? I mean the Apple iPhone isn’t even out yet.

Meanwhile, this lovely Sprint Upstage phone is out, and can be yours for free with a Sprint service plan at Wirefly. In fact, if you get this free phone with a new Sprint plan you’ll also get all of your incoming calls free of charge as well no matter who might be calling or where they might be calling from either. Sprint is the only company that offers free incoming calls.

samsung_m620_sprint_z4.jpg The Samsung M620 Upstage is the first music phone of it’s kind. It’s both a full featured phone and a full featured ipod like music player. One side is the music player and the other side is the phone. Cool eh? It’s also got a large color high resolution display and touch – sensitive controls for easy use.

Some of the features of the Upstage that I’m sure you’ll appreciate are the fact that you can download music directly, it features streaming music and video, It also contains a 1.3 MP camera/camcorder with an expandable Memory card slot, and uses BlueTooth technology that supports streaming stereo music.

That’s right. You can watch Sprint TV or listen to streaming music thanks to the phones high speed data download abilities. There’s even advanced voice activated dialing and menu controls that require no pre-training.

Doesn’t this sound like a great phone? It could be yours absolutely free too. Why are you waiting for the Apple iPhone? I mean, is it really that much better than this Samsung phone? I don’t think so … in fact, I think Samsung might have Upstaged Apple with this little gem.

I almost wish that I needed a new cell phone so I’d have a good reason to go and check out the Samsung Upstage. It sounds like a great phone and I love all the features. Samsung is a great brand name too – I’ve rarely heard any complaints about any of the the products they manufacture.
