A blogs theme or template can make or break your site

by Tricia

If you are serious about blogging you likely know that having a well put together, organized and attractive theme for your site is important.

Believe it or not, there are many people out there that judge a site initially on how it looks and if they see a blogging theme that’s a general default theme or one that’s been used on 1000’s of other sites without any kind of customization they’ll often move on to read another blog. The content on the site could be the best they could find, but they’ll leave the site simply because they don’t like the look of it. Silly really, but it’s true.

It’s a good idea to find a theme that compliments your blog and to customize it with a header that further defines your sites topic. You can pay to have a designer create a custom made theme for your site, but it’s easy enough to go into the CSS stylesheet or CSS files of a theme and change link or background colors to give the theme a more personalized look and feel.

I have a number of WordPress blogs and after spending several months looking at themes I finally changed the themes on a few of my blogs in May. I’m still keeping my eye out for themes that suit my other blogs as a few of them need a new look and or better functionality. This site could certainly use a new look.

If you are like me and you’ve been thinking of changing your sites theme it might help to know which themes are considered some of the best. I went searching for people that had already written reviews on what they consider to be the top WordPress Themes.

I’m sick of being slapped around

by Tricia

Seriously. Is Google still slapping bloggers around or what?

One of my few remaining main blogs that had PR after the last Google slap just lost PR today. It’s down to a big fat zero.

Why?

I’ve slowed down on posting on all my sites quite a bit over the last few months – in part due to our new puppy (very sick for first month with us) – and if there was anything wrong with what I was doing in the past there really shouldn’t be anything wrong now. My sites are all cleaned up – free of any badges that it seems the big G doesn’t like anymore or perhaps never liked because those companies must have threatened Google’s Adsense biz.

I think this whole thing is ridiculous. I mean Google is selectively penalizing certain bloggers while exempting “A” list bloggers from their slap. Is there really something terribly wrong with making some money writing about sites or products that you would have written about anyway? No. I don’t think so.

Not that I’ve done many posts on this site in the last few months, but I can say that there hasn’t been a pa1d review on this site for 3+ months.

How do you like the new Digg?

by Tricia

If you are already a registered member of Digg have you visited recently? If not, you really should go and update your profile.

They’ve also made it a lot easier to add friends. Remember before you could only add so many friends each day and not very fast at all? Well, I think it was Thursday – I spent some time finding a number of people I knew on Digg and adding them as friends. I think I added 60+ people to my account.

It’s amazing!

Everyone is networking. When one of my friends has a good dig they use the new shout out system and let me know. When they do send a shout out I get an email and I simply go to my digg account and check it out and if I like what they’ve submitted I give it a dig. I’ve yet to use this system for my own diggs, but believe me I will.

How do you like the new digg?

Oh and if you want to add me as a friend here’s my digg profile page.
