Has the mobile phone replaced a social life?

by Tricia

A recent poll has show that British people are not addicted to drugs, women and other such things but their mobile phones. The poll states that a whopping 88% of us will not leave our homes without taking our mobile phone. This is simply saying that as a country without mobile phones we would come to a halt. Whats this also means is that a whopping 53,658,000 phones are carried around in bags and pockets in the streets of the UK every single day. It is a fact that Britain as a whole sends over 1 Billion texts a week which actually puts us up into the top 6 for texting in the world which is silly if you consider how small Britain is.

The poll went on to say that over anything else a mobile is the one thing we will always take with us even over a wallet or purse which is most certainly a huge eye opener. Funnily enough the midlands saw the best/worst result depending on how you look at things with a massive 98% of people saying they carried it with them every single day.

The main question to ask is why? It really is rather simple. The amount of things a mobile phone can now do is astronomical ranging from a simple text or call to checking the bank details online or even getting insurance quotes. The mobile phone is one of those technology’s that seems to be advancing more and more not every year but every few months with some phones even now containing voice recognition! As well as this you can now watch television as well as your favourite film all from the touch of a button on the phone as well as look at quotes from different car insurance firms!

Of course it does mean that muggings have risen simply because there are simply more phones out there to take as well as the question are we becoming too dependent on technology? It was certainly not like this thirty years ago and it seems that as the generations go on we are becoming lazier and lazier.

If technology is your thing then why not look for gadget insurance to make sure your favourite new gadget is protected against anything and everything!

Five Great Reasons Why You Should Install Anti-Spyware Programs Onto Your Home Computer

by Tricia

Spyware, by definition, is computer application installed in a computer without the user’s awareness and consent. Though it is a common understanding that spyware unobtrusively observes user behavior, spyware extends beyond simple observing of actions. In addition to observing a user’s activities on their systems, spyware possesses the capability to get specific facts about the person’s, browsing history, and can even manipulate and control the computer system in several ways.

Spyware can install other applications that the individual would not ordinarily utilize, permit access to possibly dangerous websites, or redirect promotional income. Nearly all spyware applications trick users into installing them, by disguising themselves as valid software. Usually it requires smart anti-spyware programs to find and delete them.

Apart from these, system configurations can be altered that affect things like connection speed, homepage configurations, and absolute loss of important software. Spyware causes numerous other harmful results, and below a few are discussed in more detail.

Advertisements

The vast majority of spyware programs cause pop-up advertisements to appear. These pop up at particular time periods and circumstances, perhaps each time a user goes to a certain website, or whenever they open another browser window. Spyware offers this as an attractive utility for third-party advertisers. Promotional positions are given to them, and making money from advertisers is one of the purposes behind spyware programs’ records collecting activities.

Users object and grumble over pop-up advertisements as they find them invasive and bothersome. The majority of pop-ups use animation or flickering banners that users also find distracting. There may also be advertisements for pornographic sites that display indiscriminately. These ads are not only distracting; they may disobey anti-pornography laws in several countries or states.

Identity Stealing and Fraud

One of the most hazardous effects of spyware is certainly identity theft. A few spyware software transmit data such as usernames, passwords, and even bank or investment account information from your computer system, to another person.  In recent years, innumerable individuals have become victims of identity theft, resulting in billions of dollars of losses for individuals and corporations alike.

Private Affairs

As amazing as it sounds, spyware has also been found to intrude on private relationships as well. One application, at least, has been specifically promoted for this aim alone. Loverspy was meant to monitor partner behavior and expose disloyalty, if any. Observing an individual’s activity without their consent and monitoring information even on public or conjugal property, is illegal in particular regions. Creators and users of the software were accused on charges of wiretapping and associated computer offenses.

The New DocuPen Pen Scanner

by Tricia

standarddocupen.jpg

Pen scanners have been around for a while, but there’s a new one on the market that’s a true technological advancement.

Planon’s latest pen scanner is called the DocuPen. It’s both a scanner and high tech pen at once. It’s battery operated for full portability and it can store up to 100 pages in it’s memory scanning each in four to eight seconds.

Many of the previous pen scanners were slower and did not have the ability to scan graphics. The DocuPen does it all.

The current price of this high tech gadget is $270. The DocuPen has a USB interface, scans at a max of 200 x 200, weighs 2 oz, has an 8 MB flash memory, and works with Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP.

All you need to do is place the DocuPen on a piece of paper parallel to the text and move the pen downward over the page. When you want to see what you’ve scanned just connect the pen scanner to a computer using the USB interface.

I could see sales people and those who are frequently out of the office at meetings finding this new DocuPen quite handy.
