Add a contact form to your site

by Tricia

Ever since I started my blogs I’ve been looking for a good WordPress plugin that would create a contact form. I tried one popular contactform plugin a while ago, but I could never get it to work on my blogs.

Now I’ve discovered Wp-ContactForm, and in combination with the Exec-PHP (note this isn’t the more commonly used PHP-exec plugin – this one works better, well for me anyway!) I now have contact forms on each of my blogs.

One of the features of this contactform plugin that I really like is the ability to create drop down lists within the contact form. There’s often more than one reason why someone might want to contact the author of a blog using a contact form. It might be to have a private conversation about a post or about exchanging links or perhaps to request advertising. You can see an example of this sites contact form by clicking on the word contact in the top nav bar.

You can add security questions of your choosing when you set up your contact form too. I’m using a simple math equation, but you could ask your visitor to answer a more complex question or repeat a code and you can request that the case of the letters be ignored or otherwise. Hopefully this helps prevent abuse by spam bots. I haven’t used the contactform plugin long enough to know how well this feature is working yet.

Try the plugin out if you want to give your site visitors another way to contact you other than via you comment section.

Added a translator plugin to some of my blogs

by Tricia

Last week I installed a new WordPress plugin on two of my blogs. I decided that it was time that I made it easy for my site visitors to see translated versions of my blog posts since I have visitors on those two particular blogs from a number of different countries. So I installed the WordPress plugin Google Translate.

Looking at my web stats for the two blogs that I’m using this plugin on so far it seems to be a hit. Several of my visitors are using the translator to translate my posts each day.

Perhaps by adding this feature to my blogs it will help draw in a few new visitors each day, ones who’s first language is not English.

Have you tried using a translator on your sites? If so, did it help increase site traffic at all?

BTW if you are going to use a translator on your site, the translations have a much better chance of being correct if you try to use proper grammar and spelling in your posts. Just an FYI.

Kontera Control Plugin to be updated

by Tricia

Lucia over at Big Bucks Blogger created a fantastic wordpress plugin over the summer that helps bloggers who use Kontera on their sites decide where and when Kontera ads should show up.

When I recently widgetized one of my sites the Kontera Control Plugin started acting up on me – putting ads in posts that I’d told it not to put them in and so on. So Lucia has decided to upgrade her KonteraControl plugin for WordPress 2.3 and she’s trying to fix a few bugs that users of this plugin have discovered while using it.

I just wanted to mention this so that if you’ve come across any bugs you can let Lucia know about it now. She hopes to have a new version of this plugin out by the end of the week. So speak up if you’ve come across any problems with this great plugin.
